Bio:

Marcia began her term as Vice-President, Human Resources in April 2020. As VP, HR, Marcia provides strategic leadership for the Human Resources Department and the broader HR professional community at UBC to accomplish the vision, commitments, goals, and actions articulated in the university’s strategic plan. A key member of UBC’s Executive team, Marcia supports the Board of Governors in exercising their governance responsibilities, and works collaboratively with leadership, management, faculty and staff across the university, as well as key external constituencies, to sustain an inclusive culture that sees people as UBC’s greatest strength and cultivates mutual respect, positive relations, wellbeing, and outstanding contribution. Prior to the VP HR role, Marcia served as the Managing Director, Advisory Services and Professional Standards in Human Resources.

Prior to joining UBC, Marcia served as the Associate Vice President, Human Resources, at the University of Calgary for 10 years, where her focus was on transformation of the Human Resources practice. She has held senior HR roles at professional services organizations across Canada, including IBM Canada EDS (Hewlett Packard); Lifeworks EFAP & Wellness Programs and Ceridian, and CIBC. In these roles, she provided strategic leadership for large global companies and institutions, and led strategic planning processes, focused on increasing wellbeing initiatives, facilitating business transformation and process improvements.

Marcia has been actively involved in the development of the HR profession throughout her career, with organizations such as Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) and as President of the Human Resources Association of Universities in Western Canada (HRAUWC).

Marcia spends most of free time hiking with her husband and son, reading (murder mysteries), and cooking. She and her husband love to travel and her next destination will be to spend time with her daughter and grandsons who live in New York City
