The College is looking forward to programming in our new academic spaces in the Lower Mall Precinct, as well as the common spaces managed by Student Housing and Community Services.
We have been a unique venue for many departments across campus over the course of the past 29 years and we look forward to working with these colleagues again along with our colleagues in UBC Food Services and Sage Catering.
Culinary Learning Kitchen
This space could potentially be enjoyed by students, staff and faculty for cooking classes, guest chefs and cooking demonstrations.
Fire Hall Community Centre
This cherished 98-year-old building will be getting a new life in LMP and will serve as a multi-purpose bookable shared space for students. The 98-year-old that stopped traffic.
Grand Hall
This versatile space will be the venue for the monthly UBC Hot Lunch initiatives, other monthly lunch initiatives, lectures, speaker series, concerts and formal dinners. Due to its ability to be partitioned, this grand space can be booked for an array of functions by UBC departments.
Grand Hall Reception
When not in use for an event, the space will be set up with comfortable lounge chairs and coffee tables facing the courtyard. This will be a beautiful space for receptions and pre-function events as it overlooks the courtyard below.
Johannean Museum
Museum/library with artifacts such as the diplomas of Johanneans C.C. Wong and T.F. Ying from St. John’s University in Shanghai, China, books donated by other members and books on the history of St. John’s University as well as books authored by speakers or visitors to the College. This room can also be used as a green room for high-profile events and speakers.
Sunset Sky Lounge (in SJC Tower 2)
A quiet space for contemplation, healing and beauty that faces west with sunset views of the ocean and the mountains of Vancouver Island.
Dining Hall
This project will feature a dining hall for residents and the wider community and will be operated by UBC Food Services. Residents living in the SJC Towers will have opportunities to enjoy their meals together – “The World Around Our Table.” We will do smaller scale programming in the space, i.e., Pride Night Dinners. All residents in the Lower Mall Precinct and the UBC community can enjoy meals in the Dining Hall.
Common Spaces
The Lower Mall Precinct will have many common space amenities provided by Student Housing and Community Services including: Fitness Studios, Games Room, Bike Rooms, Laundry Rooms, Music Rooms, and Study Rooms.
